Call me, I will do what I can. We can work with your ins. and with Boston to come up with something that will work.

    Re: Insurance Problems

When i went to Boston in March, the NEMC offered me a 10% discount for paying cash, but don't count on that. They also gave me an estimate of 1200 dollars for the HCM clinic, but don't count on that either. It will actually cost you between three and four thousand dollars for the minimal amount of tests and consultation. That's an EKG, an echo, and a short consultation with the doctors.

If the nice lady at the business office in Boston works out a payment plan with you, get it in writing and make her sign it before you leave. The NEMC turned me over to a collection agency less than thirty days after my visit, and before i had even received my first bill from them to tell me what my balance was so i could start making payments.

Don't let the financial burden influence your decision to go and get treatment if you need it, but nobody's doing anybody any favors by neglecting to mention the financial aspect either. Nobody ever tells you that the financial burden of HCM is just as bad, if not worse sometimes, than the symptoms themselves

Please, please, please, do whatever you can to make your insurance pay for it.

In some cases, (i.e. HMO's), you need a referral letter from your doctor. I don't know what your insurance is but it wouldn't hurt to call their customer service phone #. Sometimes a doctor's office will make accommodations as Sarah mentioned. (i.e. payment plan)...good luck

First, call Boston's office and talk to them about what they can do for you --they probably hear this a lot and have suggestions, self-pay discounts, or at least some guideance.

Second, review your policy (the actual policy, not what they tell your or the little brochure) and see under what circumstances they'll pay for out of network or specialists. There is usually a procedure or letter from your current doctor or something that should get at least some coverage for it.

Third, next time you have the opportunity to change insurance, get a PPO.

    good luck,

    Sarah
