  • NEw to HCM ......UPDATE

Well we had our first visit with the Pediatric Cardio yesterday! Needless to say I came out with my head spinning!!

My 10 year old was diagnosed with PDA ( Patent Ductus Arteriosus), and a slight murmur. At this point we are not going to fix the PDA, however she will have to take antibiotics ! hour before any medical procedure, i.e. dental work, surgeries, etc.

My 7 year old has a slightly elevated BP, 125/60 with a mild thickening in the left ventical. At this point we dont know if the thickening is from the BP or HCM, or I guess maybe both. I am still confused at this point. We are going to have her kidneys and the vessels going to the kidneys ulrasounded and also have some different blood test done.

At this point we are looking at treating her with the Beta - Blockers (atenolol). And the Holter monitor to see if she is having any arythmias.

I do have to say THANK YOU TO LISA, she did help put this information into laymans terms for me, I was quite overwhelmed after the meeting with the DR.

If anyone has any added information for me PLEASE let me hear from you!! We'll keep ya'll posted!!

Sabrina, I can see why your head is spinning. That's a lot of info to take in. I'm glad they seem to have the tests all lined up to cover all bases. It's just so hard waiting for the results. Hang in there and keep us posted. Best wishes, Linda

      Re: NEw to HCM ......UPDATE

      HI,
I am glad I could help. It was a little crazy attempting to chat the other night on my cell - while a few thousand cardiologists wandered around
I am glad you are online and looking for some answers. I would suggest you take some time and look through the other pages of the site for some more data on HCM, the heart and medications.

      Be well!
      Lisa
