    is this death anything related to HCM and would an ICD prevented this from happening??

    There is not enough information in the currently available reports to know for sure.

    Dx age 12 current age 46 and counting!
    lost: 5 family members to HCM (SCD, Stroke, CHF)
    Others diagnosed living with HCM (or gene +) include - daughter, niece, nephew, cousin, sister and many many friends!
    Therapy - ICD (implanted 97, 01, 04 and 11, medication
    Currently not obstructed
    Complications - unnecessary pacemaker and stroke (unrelated to each other)

      The "NY Times" has an article about this case on their web site. For a while today, that article had more information in it than the one that is currently available; for some unknown reason the posted article has been edited. The information that was deleted pointed to a blocked right coronary artery and some tissue damage that had apparently been suffered about a week before Mr. Herrion's tragic death. The implication is that the tissue damage to some portion of the heart contributed to further lack blood circulation to the muscle. According to the since edited report, the damage resulting from the lack of blood circulation due to the blocked coronary artery was the cause of death.

      The article (did?) does say that Mr. Herrion's heart was mildly enlarged, which could mean he did have HCM, then again maybe not, it is not clear.

      I don't know if an ICD could have overcome the muscle damage and restart his heart, I tend to doubt it, but I've been known to be wrong before. Perhaps someone else will throw in their speculation.
