A-fib is easy to recognize: the heart rate is always irregular and very fast. PVCs usually just feel like you have skipped a beat and then you get a thud. These are usually harmless. A-fib on the other hand can go on and on. It becomes the predominant 'rhythm', not sinus rhythm.
Hope this helps. And I hope you never get it. If you are still concerned, get your doc to give you a holter or 7 day event monitor.
Cheers,
Paul

PVC's & A-Fib
How can you tell the difference between PVC's and A-Vib. My cardiologist has mentioned that I have PVC's but has never mentioned A-Fib; however from what I understand PVC's are very common even in healthy hearts. The reason I ask is because I often have a great deal of trouble falling asleep at night because of a very active heart. It beats fast (upper 80's or 90's at rest in the evening) not enough to get zapped but definitely enough to keep me awake. Also, it seems to happen when I am laying down. My normal resting heart beat is in the 70's to low 80's. I have HCM w/obstruction and take Toprol XL, 100mg in the late evening and 50mg in the late morning. I'll mention this to my EP next month however any info in the mean time would be appreciated.Tags: None
