After my lead of 10 years revealed itself to be faulty, the attending doctor suggested that I could opt for an extraction instead of just orphaning the lead. He had quite a few reasons why he thought this is a good idea for my specific case, but most of all he said I didn't want to have an infection at age 50 and need a lead installed when I was 10 removed.

I trust his qualifications too; he does most of the extractions in my state (farily small and rural) and worked with my cardiologist for many years and comes fully recommended by him.

I'm wondering if any of you guys have done the same? I've looked at some medical articles but I haven't dug up much information relevant to removing old leads.
