  • I have a mechanical aortic valve just wanting to talk

Hello my name is Rick my 34 year old male I've had to open heart surgeries I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and mechanical aortic valve and I get chest pains that feel like pressure extreme pressure underneath my heart in my heart beats irregularly sometimes really fast it starts slow and then beats really really fast and then slows back down just wondering if anybody knows if I should be concerned about the pressure issues that I'm having or is that something for HCM pains I used to have some popular aortic stenosis when I was seven I had surgery and I just recently had surgery for years ago replacement or aortic valve and I have not really gotten to talk to anybody that has the same problem so this form is pretty good for me and everybody else I don't think fly the best way to talk about it but it seems like it's easier to talk to younger people because I've had this issue since I was seven I am on a bunch of medications I was disabled but decided to work a very physical job and now that I I'm feeling this pains again raising some concerned I do talk to my cardiologists and he is concerned with the outflow of blood from my lower chamber just wondering if anybody else has that of that issue

Dear Rk.... I'm not young and I do not have an aortic valve replacement.... but I am a nurse and have HCM and have had myectomy surgery.
    1) Chest pain/ pressure is a concern and cannot be said " It's just your HCM" until other issues are ruled out and you are on proper medication for your HCM Then a certain amount of mild chest pressure may be normal for you.
    2) Irregular heart beats are a concern and some need to be treated vigorously some not. A holter monitor or an event monitor can record several days of your heart rhythm so the cardiologist can identify what is going on
    3) "Concern about the outflow of blood from (your) lower chamber" May mean you are developing obstruction from your HCM, this can cause chest pain and evaluation by an HCM specialist would be best.
    3) I'm not sure of your history or who you are seeing as a cardiologist or why your aortic valve was replaced. However, the best advice is to get a complete evaluation at an HCM center of excellence and then they can give you a cutting edge treatment plan and work with you and your local cardiologist when you get back home.

    Myectomy 3/11/13 at non-COE
