  • Types of ICDs

I am scheduled to have an ICD implanted next month and I was told that I will either get a Boston Scientific DDD-ICD or a Medtronic DDD-ICD. Can anyone tell me if one is preferred over the other and why?
    Thank you,

Hi Bearclaw, My experience is with the Medtronic. I can say it works very well. It certainly saved my life. I only had it for three years before it went off, but had no problems previous to that time. The leads were still good when they replaced the ICD. Best of luck.

      Hi Bearclaw,
So glad you are getting your ICD. I don't have one so not much to share. This message board here used to be very active a couple years ago when I joined, however it seems it does not have as many contributors since HCMA started a Facebook group. I don't know if you are a Facebook person or not ..... but if you are, you may find more people with ICDs responding to your question there.
Also, as a nurse, I find that the nurse specialists working with doctors often have a wealth of information to share with patients..So, you may want to call the EP doctor's office and ask for a nurse or resident( MD in training) that can explain the difference between the two ICDs and why they might choose one over the other. The doctor generally has in depth experience with both and chooses a particular " fit" physically and medically for the patient. When you get feedback from a patient with a particular ICD it is very helpful but they only have experience with the one they have in place.
So gather info from both....other patients and your MDs office.

Probably....I joined once but dropped out....It was just a bit too much activity for me...But it really works for some people.
i'm an old hippy.... I'd rather write a detailed response to a question when I can, than do Facebook or twitter.
