  • Thinking about ICD, please help !!!

Long story short, I was diagnosed with hcm as a child because my mom had it. She had sudden death when I was 3 and was able to be saved. I have barely any symptoms (other than the occasional PVC) but have read that a family history of sudden death is a huge risk factor. My cardiologist knows my history but doesn't seem overly concerned. Should I be considering an ICD to prevent SCD? how much does my moms history influence my risk despite my heart only having a 1.3 thickness which I'm told is borderline hcm borderline normal?

As I said regarding your other post, I think you'd do well to see a specialist at one of the centers of excellence - and not just your local cardiologist. Local cardiologists, even really good ones, usually are not as up-to-date on HCM issues as they need to be. Questions like yours are commonly addressed at the COEs, and with knowledge specific to HCM.
