  • Replacement ICD

My ICD sticks out, hurts, is unsightly and I also suffer from PMT (pacemaker mediated tach).
I'd like to get a smaller one if possible and have it implanted deeper.
My insurance has a relationship with Cleveland Clinic and I live in Seattle.
Does anyone have a recommendation for where and who I should have a replacement, comments about issues with Sub pectoral placement? Thank you. David

    Re: Replacement ICD

David - You need not go to Cleveland for an AICD exchange. These can be done locally. I would however, discuss if a change-out can improve the PMT.
How long have you had your unit? Is it due for a change-out? If its fairly recent in the last 2 years or so, I doubt the newer unit would be smaller. As to a SubPec install, this can depend on a few things. Not sure if there is enough "Lead" to allow for it to move further into the muscle (not sure if they have an extension cord!). Also, Subpec does require the cutting of muscle tissue which requires a longer recovery.

These are questions you may wish to ask your local EP.
